CHARITY WORK

Upliftment and Support of Local Communities

Freemasonry is not a charity organisation in itself, but a large part of a Lodge’s responsibility is charity work, where we uphold one of the 3 major principles of Freemasonry: Relief. Funds are raised by holding social events and these in turn, also allow members the opportunity to get to know each other on an informal basis.

Every year, at Lodge Protea, the Worshipful Master nominates a registered charity of her choosing and monies raised during social events, which is then donated as such. Lodges would also often work in association with other lodges to arrange donations and raise funds for other non-profit organisations.

Lodge Protea has been actively involved in community projects for the underprivileged, ranging from the elderly, children, the homeless, organisations such as Cansa and of last but not least, the SPCA.

At every craft meeting, brethren furthermore donate small food parcels which are donated to those less fortunate. Throughout all its charity work, the delight with which it is received causes a strong motivation to continue to contribute and assist local communities that depend on our assistance. Please visit our news page where we publish our fundraising events or download our digital newsletter, “The Link”.
